This was a time of unrest, when the evil forces of Kel' Thuzard, the Supreme Ruler of the Lich , were on the prowl once again, bolstered in strength and numbers by a new formidable army of unspeakable creatures summoned from the depths of hell. This army was bred to achieve what Kel' Azar failed to do 25 years ago---to conquer the land of the living.
Much credit for his defeat had to go to King Hydraxis the 2nd, who in his capacity as the leader of the humans, brokered a peace alliance between the blood elves and the night elves to fight the scourge under one banner, which had then conquered enough to threaten the Agaroth and Chilliwind Heights, home bases of the humans and elves respectively. Over one night of fierce battle which was to determine the fate of Azeroth, Kel' Azar was slain when the valiant Lord Rivendare and his Paladins broke through Azar's inner cordon of guards and blasted him with the power of the Holy Light. Although Azar was a master practicioner of dark magic, he simply could not hold out under their concentrated attack and fell. Seeing their leader pulverized to dust, the undead army lost their will to fight on and routed under a barrage of elven arrows, which wiped out almost the entire undead army. This was a resounding victory that would be forever remembered in the annals of human and elven kind.
However, things were much different now.. the tentative peace alliance between the two elven factions fell into tatters and war once again broke out. Large tracts of land fell to desolation as elven armies crossed swords and exchanged arrows. Taking advantage of the fractious state of affairs, Kel' Thuzard once again summoned a mighty army to cleanse earth of the living. He also secretly sent his emissary, Darkmaster Gandling, to entice and lure Paladins away from the Silver Hand to serve the the Lich King. This plan was met with limited success, but still some Knights succumbed to the dark side and became death knights, who pledged their allegiance to the Lich.
There was still hope, however, in the form of a young priestess..
