This will be a crucial semester. After this semester, we will (well, those who want to) apply to various law firms, the legal service etc. for a training contract, so this will be our very last semester to get what better grades we can get to prove to our future hirer that we are at least objectively competent.
Stressful, ain't it? But when is life, especially in Singapore, ever a cakewalk? It doesn't help that the grading at NUS is really destructive, as how well you do depends on how badly (or well) the next student did. There is no objective benchmark to measure a student's competency; the current system assumes that every student's background etc. is a non-factor in affecting his or her grades. It assumes that every student can and will devote all his time to his studies, but how true is this in every case? Some students may hold down part time jobs because they need to, or they may have familial commitments. The bell curve ignores this, but alas this is how it works. Love it or hate it, we have no choice but to plough on and try our best - this is the very least we can do to not let ourselves down.
